Last Minute Gifts

Last Minute Gifts

Dec 1, 2011

Looking for a last minute holiday gift or a gift for someone who has everything?  After all, it seems now that I am an empty nester, I want to simplify my life.  I do not need more “things”!  So, you can give a gift of hope and opportunity through two organizations and one company right now on line from where you sit.

The first is Pangeo Coffee Company.  You can support development work in poor villages by giving and/or drinking their world class coffee.  Pangeo’s coffee story comes right out of humanitarian aid work in Africa.  It’s a great holiday gift with a purpose.  From the “coffee snob”  that I am, I highly recommend Pangeo Coffee.  We just enjoyed the Fair Trade Organic Ethiopian Harrar with an amazing sweet aroma and medium-to-heavy body over the Thanksgiving Holidays!  It was fantastic!

The second is an organization that I am also familiar with, Samaritan’s Purse.  Last year I gave my friend a gift from the Samaritan’s Purse catalogue.  They are also the group that sponsors Operation Christmas Child which gives packed shoe boxes of toys, candies, and socks to children in poor countries over the holidays.  My friend who received the gift is a pediatric nurse and has a heart for children.  I had a card sent to her which said that $9.00 was being sent to the Horn of Africa where there are starving babies and hungry nursing mothers.  Samaritan’s Purse works in feeding centers there to provide protein rich meals and $9.00 will provide food for a week.  It was being sent in her name.  I truly trust this organization.   It is run by Franklin Graham, the son of Billy Graham, who are both highly respected and very ethical men.

The third is Heifer International which I discovered this year.  This organization gives families a hand-up, not just a hand-out, and empowers them to turn lives of hunger and poverty into self-reliance and hope.  In their catalogue you could give a gift of Honeybees for $30, a starter flock of chicks for $20 or the share of a goat for $10 all in your friend’s name.  A card can be sent directly to them or you can receive the card to personalize it yourself.

Check out all three of these great gift giving opportunities to give a gift with a purpose!  Their websites are below:
